Our Story
MASCOTTE Aged Care Solutions was founded by experienced nurses Mark Aitken and Sarah Creane who have spent decades working within and alongside Australia’s aged-care and health systems.
The Founder Story of MASCOTTE Aged Care Solutions
Turning Advocacy into Action for Older Australians
Every startup begins with a moment of clarity — a point where a problem can no longer be ignored.
For Mark Aitken and Sarah Creane, that moment didn’t arrive suddenly. It was shaped over decades working as nurses, managing aged care programs and residential aged care facilities, providing advocacy and through lived experience. They repeatedly witnessed older people and their families/representatives struggle to navigate a system that was meant to support them, yet too often left them confused, excluded, or unheard.
That insight became the foundation for MASCOTTE Aged Care Solutions.
A Vision Rooted in Dignity and Autonomy
From the outset, MASCOTTE was shaped by a clear belief: ageing should never mean losing agency, dignity, or decision-making.
Mark and Sarah envisioned an organisation that would support older people and their families/representatives — helping them understand their options, ask the right questions and make informed decisions aligned with their goals.
Rather than treating aged care as a transaction, the founders saw it as a human journey. One that puts people first, that deserves time, transparency, respect and advocacy.
Their vision was not to “fix” people, but to untangle a system, simplify options and return confidence to those navigating some of life’s biggest decisions.
Grounded in Experience
What sets MASCOTTE apart is that its story is not aspirational in theory alone — it is grounded in lived experience.
Founders Mark Aitken and Sarah Creane, bring extensive career commitment to health and aged care, nursing, advocacy and social justice into the heart of the organisation.

Mark Aitken
A Registered Nurse and long-standing aged-care advocate, Mark has spent decades deeply immersed in residential, community, dementia care and specialised aged care services, giving him first-hand insight into both what works — and what fails — older Australians.

Sarah Creane
Sarah Creane, also a nurse, has honed her administrative and governance skills whilst working with Australian Government departments, including Department of Health and Ageing. Respectful, dogged and determined, she and Mark are MASCOTTE’s solutions-based team ensuring our clients get what they deserve.
We are available to support you, discuss your needs or concerns and tailor a plan that is about YOU and your future of choice.
Sarah and Mark have consistently seen the same pattern repeat:
people overwhelmed by complexity
families/supporters struggling to understand the system and their options
decisions made without clarity or proper support
Too often, older people were misunderstood, incorrectly assessed, or left to manage an exhausting system alone.
MASCOTTE was created to change that.
Plain-spoken guidance
Advocacy that protects dignity
Person centered support by people who care and systems that work for you
We chose the name MASCOTTE (lucky charm) because it reflects our purpose — to accompany and guide you through the aged care maze.
